Hunter Macias
Quality Engineer II · Costco Travel

Software Development Engineer in Test at Costco Travel, focused on building reliable, high-quality consumer applications at scale.

I work at the intersection of engineering, quality, and systems design—helping teams ship confidently through automation, test strategy, and thoughtful validation.

How I work

I build systems that help teams move with more confidence

My work sits at the intersection of engineering, quality, performance, and developer experience.

Own the outcome

I do not stop at identifying a problem. I work across code, tooling, performance, and delivery until the team has a practical path forward.

Build for leverage

I look for opportunities to replace repeated manual work with reusable systems, automation, and self-service tools that help the entire team move faster.

Use evidence to decide

I turn vague concerns into measurable signals—latency, reliability, risk, adoption, and trends—so decisions are grounded in evidence rather than assumptions.

Make the team stronger

I share context, document decisions, mentor others, and explain the reasoning behind the work so improvements continue beyond a single project.

Modernizing the cruise search platform

I own quality, performance, and release confidence for Costco Travel's cruise search platform modernization, working within a cross-functional team that includes a product owner, a scrum master, three QAs (one offshore in India), and six developers split evenly onshore and offshore. My scope stays inside the Shopping portfolio roughly 90–95% of the time, stepping outside it only when a bug traces back to an upstream or downstream system.
